Hello, my name is Darius Stultz, and I have been a fish keeper for years now, and I can't explain my joy for those aquatic critters! This blog has been created simply to show the beauty of God's creatures and to show why I am so amazed!

  2. I'm just starting with fish keeping and the African cichlids are beautiful fish. The highest I can go atm is a 55gal tank. I'm just uncertain about which fish to stock it with and which African cichlids would be good for it.

    1. I started keeping African cichlids in a 55 gallon myself! The best African cichlids for a 55 gallon tank as a beginner would of the lake Malawi Mbuna. They are hardy, beautiful and they don't get too large, with the exception of a few. They only thing about Mbuna is that they are very aggressive fish, so you may face stressful times watching their aggression towards each other even causing injuries and deaths....but as you grow in experience and knowledge of these fish you'll come up with your own tricks to lower aggression. Some Mbuna that I enjoy myself a yellow labs, red zebra's, cobalt blue zebra's, rusty cichlids, and Afra cichlids. Some Mbuna that I don't recommend to the beginner are melanochromis species and kenyi cichlids because these are far more aggressive from my experience also bumble cichlids and Acei can get too large for a 55 gallon tank. As far as how many, you may have heard people overstocking their African cichlid tanks to lower aggression and from my experience it does help so I'd put between 8-12 Mbuna in a 55 gallon! Hope this info helps!

    2. Thanks for the advice. What kind of filter would you use for this tank? I've heard good things about the aquaclear 110. With how good these fish look it's hard to pick which ones. I want a lot of color in my tank and most recommended mbuna are mostly blues from what I can see.

    3. I love the aquaclear 110 its a very good filter from my experience and I think that would be good for a 55 gallon. And my rams are in a 55 gallon tank with an angle fish, tiger barbs, roseline sharks, and a few different tetra!
